Many times we've been up and down the waterway but never has the Currituck Sound been like this. This day was absolutely glorious in every way and it was unreservedly a departure from what we've experienced previously.
Hopefully you won't be bored with the photos but I couldn't put the phone down...and I'm not including all of them so you can heave a sigh of relief.

We always enjoy Norfolk and Portsmouth with its very interesting and active waterfront.
There's so much activity that it's difficult to look everywhere at once even at our turtle speed.
We've never been to Hampton so that was on our itinerary for this trip. This is the bell tower for Hampton University.
The campus is beautiful and in flawless condition. There were lawn keepers working everywhere! This is one of the top historically black universities in the world. In 1868 it was founded after the American Civil War to provide education to the freed people.

Sally and Bob, friends from our winters in the Keys, live in Hampton and they rolled out the red carpet and were phenomenal hosts. The four of us had lunch on the James River with a water view. (We never get tired of looking at the water!) Our tummies were too full for dinner so we skipped that and went to their lovely home for the evening.
Both of them are alums of William and Mary in Williamsburg. We'd never been there but it's been on the Bucket List for a long time. We walked the campus and part of the historic area while they gave us the history of many of the buildings. Above and below is inside the Christopher Wren building which was the main building when they were students there. Wren is one of most highly acclaimed English architects in history. To his credit are St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Kinsington Palace, and National Maritime Museum which are only a few of his structures.

Last night we were guests of Sally and Bob at the Hampton Yacht Club. The view was exquisite but I was too busy laughing and talking to think of taking a photo so took this one this morning as we were leaving Hampton.
Farewell to Hampton as we departed this morning pretty early to hopefully beat the heat but the heat is hard to beat!!!
